CADE's 2006 Fundraiser

April 27, 2006

2006 CADE Awards Ceremony and Preview Night Reception

Governor Edward G. Rendell, State Representative Dwight Evans, Philadelphia District Attorney Lynne Abraham, and, Joan Specter, wife of U. S. Senator Arlen Specter, joined nearly 350 guests of CADE to honor Bill and Nancy Giles in a festive gathering at the Pennsylvania Convention Center, on April 27th. Mr. Giles—Philadelphia Phillies Chairman—is a co-founder and a former Board President of CADE, which began in 1987. The Awards Ceremony was sponsored by Temple University Health System and Firstrust Bank. John and Louise Binswanger served as the event chairs and Mark S. Schweiker, President and CEO of the Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, was the honorary event chair. The event, held in association with the 2006 Philadelphia Furniture and Furnishings Show, featured a preview night reception of the exhibits.

CADE is Philadelphia’s leading, elementary and middle school-based drug, alcohol, and violence prevention program.  Each year, CADE serves nearly 40,000 Philadelphia public school children by helping them learn to make smart decisions

Bill and Nancy Giles received a ceremonial bat made entirely by hand from a tightly-grained piece of rare Pennsylvania tiger maple—in recognition of their longstanding support of CADE. The commemorative bat was made by a team at Irion Furniture Makers.

Along with Bill and Nancy Giles, the first annual CADE Awards Ceremony recognized Principal Jack Hamilton, from Thurgood Marshall School in North Philadelphia, and also recognized 10 “CADE Kids” for their program participation and commitment to personal excellence.

Guests were treated to a rousing Mummers string band performance, and participated in a live and silent auction.

CADE is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent of the law. The official registration and financial information of CADE may be obtained from the Pennsylvania Department of State by calling toll-free, within Pennsylvania, 1-800-732-0999.
