For many children, their CADE specialist is the only positive role model they have. Children often approach their specialist to discuss problems, which may be confidential. The specialist is trained to assist the student and to seek assistance from the school counselor where appropriate, or if parents need to be involved.

Problems might include a family member's violence after drinking, relatives in jail, being pressured to have sex or avoiding dealers in the neighborhood.
